Overview
The Creative Commons Certificate program presents comprehensive courses on Creative Commons (CC) licenses, open practices, and the fundamental principles underlying the Commons philosophy. CC licenses provide, for individuals and large establishments, a standardized method of authorizing the public to utilize their creative works within the framework of copyright law. This interactive component was crafted to seamlessly integrate within the current educational materials. Its purpose is to allow learners to apply their acquired knowledge concerning CC license compatibility.
Needs Analysis
The exploration of license compatibility was conveyed through textual information and illustrated via a static image presented in the form of a chart. While the chart served as a valuable point of reference for future needs, the inclusion of an interactive formative assessment was determined to be a great addition to this topic. This addition would not only empower learners to engage actively with their acquired knowledge but also provide them with an avenue to apply their understanding in practice, enhancing the overall learning experience.
Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, the incorporation of accessibility emerged as a crucial aspect to address. The static image, unfortunately, lacked the suitable alt-text, rendering it less than optimal for individuals with visual impairments. In response to these limitations, a concerted effort was invested in the development of the Interactive CC License Compatibility Chart, ensuring accessibility for all learners, regardless of their individual abilities.

The integration of the Interactive CC License Compatibility Chart holds the potential to harmoniously blend into the ongoing certification program’s structure. To enable diverse utilization in accordance with individual preferences, the work has been thoughtfully licensed under CC BY 4.0, facilitating broad accessibility and creative adaptation.
Concurrently, adhering to the ethos of the Commons, which champions openness and resource sharing, the files for embedding this interactive component have been made available for download. This equips both educators and learners with the capacity to flawlessly integrate this interactive tool into their educational systems.
